AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Shopping mall heiress Capri Cafaro has picked a new district in her second run for Congress.
Cafaro will run for U.S. representative in Ohio's 13th District, which includes parts of Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain and Medina counties.
The 28-year-old Democrat and native of Hubbard in Trumbull County failed to unseat U.S. Rep. Steve LaTourette, R-Madison, in the 14th District two years ago, losing 63 percent to 37 percent.
The 13th District, however, is predominantly Democratic, and a Democrat has held the seat since 1977.
With U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown of Avon leaving the seat to run for U.S. Senate, Cafaro has moved to Sheffield to live in the district. She had been living in New York City, Cafaro spokesman Vic Rubenstein said.
She will face at least three other candidates in the May 2 Democratic primary — former congressman Tom Sawyer, labor lawyer Betty Sutton and Akron lawyer John Wolfe.
According to election filings, Cafaro spent $1.6 million of her own money in her campaign against LaTourette, out of a total $1.8 million collected by her campaign.
