New MCDAC Project

Last month 40 MCDAC volunteers help distribute approximately 22,000 copies of Common Sense to targeted Democratic precincts. Now we are looking for help for another project. MCDAC wants to publish and distribute a June issue of Common Sense. To accomplish this goal we need two things: (1). volunteers to help pass out Common Senseand (2). money to publish the piece.

If you are interested in volunteering, please send us your name and address to joycekimbler@medinacountydemocraticactioncommittee.org and put "volunteer" in the subject line. If you want to donate to this cause, please click here to make a donation:

Attention Medina County Democrats

Looking to get involved in state and/or local Dem races? Pam Miller, Medina County Dem Chair, tells how:

Now that we know who the Democratic nominees are for the November election, we need volunteers to serve as County Coordinators for the various campaigns. Although we will be running a coordinated campaign, each candidate will need a point person in Medina County. Please contact me (pam450@bright.net) if you are interested in being a County Coordinator for any of the following campaigns: Richard Cordray for Treasurer; Marc Dann for Attorney General; Barbara Sykes for Auditor; Betty Sutton for Congress (13th District); Tom Shaw for Congress (16th District); Ben Espy for Ohio Supreme Court; Judge William O'Neill for Ohio Supreme Court; Clair Dickinson for 9th District Court of Appeals. I will forward your name and contact info to the appropriate campaign.

Let me know also if you'd like to work on the campaigns of Jack Schira for 69th District State Representative; James Riley for 97th District State Representative; John Dean for County Commissioner; Judge Mary Kovack; Lori Henry for Medina Municipal Clerk; and Mike Kovack for Auditor.

Coordinators already in place include: David Brown for Sherrod Brown for Senate; Joe D'Angelo for Strickland for Governor; Wanda Stewart for Jennifer Brunner for Secretary of State."

Political Humor

"Having been called names, one looks back at one's own angry outbursts over the years, and I recall having once referred to Republicans as "hairy-backed swap developers, freelance racists, hobby cops, line jumpers, aluminum-siding salesmen, misanthropic frat boys, shrieking midgets, tax cheats, cat stranglers, pill pushers, backed-up Baptists, mouthbreathers and brownshirts in pinstripes." I look at these words now, and "cat stranglers" seems excessive to me. The number of cat stranglers in the ranks of the Republican Party is surely low, and that reference was hurtful to Republicans and to cat owners. I feel sheepish about it."-Garrison Keillor

Akron Beacon Journal's analysis of Brown-DeWine race: it will be nasty and expensive. Doesn't anyone find it remarkable that after 12 years in the U.S. Senate Mike DeWine has to run a negative campaign to have a shot at winning? http://postsnet.com/r.html?c=705299&r=704609&t=387118452&l=1&d=87090970&u=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eohio%2ecom%2fmld%2fbeaconjournal%2f14630907%2ehtm&g=0&f=-1

Last week in Medina Connie Schultz told that when Sherrod Brown asked her to marry him, she made him promise that he wouldn't use a small plane for campaigning. Here's an interesting article on why candidates are giving up on small planes. http://postsnet.com/r.html?c=705299&r=704609&t=387118452&l=1&d=87090966&u=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2egrandforks%2ecom%2fmld%2fgrandforks%2fliving%2f14605987%2ehtm&g=0&f=-1

Who are the oil companies backing in the Brown-DeWine race? Well, it isn't Brown, that's for sure. Read this article to see how much DeWine has gotten from Big Oil and then ask yourself if you want a Senator beholden to the oil companies. http://postsnet.com/r.html?c=705299&r=704609&t=387118452&l=1&d=87090964&u=http%3a%2f%2ftoledoblade%2ecom%2fapps%2fpbcs%2edll%2farticle%3fAID%3d%2f20060513%2fNEWS09%2f605130344&g=0&f=-1

The Washington Post runs a column called "The Fix" in which the writer discusses the 10 most watched races for U.S. Senate and U. S. Governors. This week, he discussed Governors and Ohio's race was No. 2. A leading conservative attacks the GOP. This is an interesting take on how the "big business" wing of the GOP has betrayed the conservative base. http://postsnet.com/r.html?c=705299&r=704609&t=387118452&l=1&d=87090973&u=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2ewashingtonpost%2ecom%2fwp%2ddyn%2fcontent%2farticle%2f2006%2f05%2f19%2fAR2006051901770%5fpf%2ehtml&g=0&f=-1

Read about a special election in California to fill the seat of convicted GOP Congressman Duke Cunningham. This should be a cakewalk for the GOP but is turning into a real race, complete with GOP mudslinging and lying. http://postsnet.com/r.html?c=705299&r=704609&t=387118452&l=1&d=87090963&u=http%3a%2f%2fnews%2eyahoo%2ecom%2fs%2fap%2f20060522%2fap%5fon%5fel%5fgu%2fcalifornia%5fspecial&g=0&f=-1

Laura Bush tells GOP not to make the issue of gay marriage a campaign issue in the 2006 election.
