Pro-Peace March and Rally
Where
Grace Park, Akron, OH
When
Sep 24, 2005
starts at 11:00 am
On Saturday, September 24th, the Summit County Progressive Democrats are sponsoring an anti-war rally and march to coincide with the massive march planned in Washington D.C. They are inviting us to join them in this peaceful protest. Below is the letter I received from them asking for our participation. Please contact me if you would like to go. It would be good if we could carpool....perhaps we could meet in the parking lot of Buehler's River Styx that morning and go over in several cars. Let's have a good showing from Medina County

One of the most massive civic demonstrations
in recent history is being planned to take
place in Washington, D.C. this month. On
September 24th, millions of patriotic Americans
will gather on the mall in the nation’s
capitol, to voice their dissatisfaction with
the Bush Administration’s ‘pro–war, no–exit’
strategy in Iraq.
Simultaneous
demonstrations will be held all over the
country in hundreds of cities. This
letter is addressed to fellow northeast Ohioans
who love their country, but cannot travel to
Washington to express their opposition to this
senseless, illegitimate war.
As a
chapter of the Progressive Democrats of
America, the Summit County
Progressive Democrats are organizing a
local demonstration in Akron, to be conducted
simultaneously with the Washington peace
march. We are writing you now to ask for
you assistance, your presence, and your
voice. We are asking you to join us in a
visible, vocal, insistent, but peaceful
demonstration to demand that the architects of
this war offer a plan to bring it to an
end.
Our rally will begin at Grace Park
in downtown Akron at 11 AM. There will be
featured speakers to address the crowd.
After a mile march through the streets of
Akron, we will reassemble at Grace Park, where
spokespersons for participating organizations
will be given the opportunity to address their
fellow pro-peace, anti-war
activists.
This is a call to anyone who
believes the war in Iraq is a national
disaster. It is a call to Democrats,
Republicans, and Independents. It is a
call to people of faith who believe this
crusade is misguided, unjust, and immoral. It
is a call to patriots who love their country,
to veterans whose own experience tells them
that this war is wrong, and to parents and
relatives of our military service men and women
who have been put in harm’s way for no good
reason. It is a call to men and women of
conscience.
We want you to join us in
Akron on Saturday, September 24, to make your
voice heard. If representatives of your
group can be with us, we ask the following:
that you contact us and let us know that you
plan to participate; that you designate a
spokesperson, if you would like podium time;
and that you give us an estimate of the number
of people you will bring.
In peace and
solidarity,
The Summit County
Progressive Democrats / Ingrid Kunstel,
President
