Military

Our military plays the most important part of our nation’s security. U.S. troops have by no means had the support they need to win the peace in Iraq. Troop levels are stretched out too thin, leaving our military personal overextended. Many front line units make due with faulty equipment and insufficient firepower. There have even been instances where stateside family members have to buy body armor on the Internet for their loved ones on the front lines. We must support our troops with not only yellow ribbons but with proper armor and adequate ordinance. From a multi-billion dollar weapons system to a new pair of boots, the level of support needs to be much higher than it is right now. Back home, these families want for lack of money, proper housing, decent health care and food. We’re a country with an all volunteer military, yet we wonder why our retention levels are so very poor. It’s time to treat these men and women with the respect that they deserve. Military spending is a serious no-brainer. Congress argues over the amount of money to spend, and where to spend it, disregarding the absolute need that these people have, both on the front lines and back at home with their families. With an 85% - 90% cut in annual corporate welfare spent by our Congress, we can afford to give our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines a real pay raise, livable housing and significantly decrease the level of worry that our fighting men and women have for those they leave back home.
