[City of Columbus study] WHAT’S WRONG WITH OHIO? Ohio led the nation in the exodus of young people between 2000 and 2003. [U.S. Census] WHAT’S RIGHT WITH COLUMBUS? Columbus increased its population of young people between 2000 and 2003 – America Online rated Columbus the nation’s #2 best place for singles. WHAT IS WRONG WITH OHIO? Bankruptcies climbed faster in Ohio than any other state in the nation between 2000 and 2003. Ohio led the nation in the number of mortgage foreclosures. [Policy Matters report] WHAT IS RIGHT WITH COLUMBUS? City incentives retained and created 12,450 new jobs since 2000 and Columbus ranked first in the Midwest for entrepreneurs [Entreprenuer Magazine] and second hottest job market in the nation by SmartMoney Magazine. WHAT IS WRONG WITH OHIO? In its 11th year of operating with an unconstitutional, underfunded public school system, and received an F grade in higher education affordability by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education. WHAT IS RIGHT WITH COLUMBUS? Cap City Kids, nationally recognized as effective by the American Youth Policy Forum, provides 2,500 Columbus school children with safe places to learn and play after school.
