"Knight in Shining Armor" by Buz Cormany

Our nation's great KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR - or better yet - FLIGHT JACKET ARMOR, or "mission accomplished" vintage, George Bush declared on his 2004 election, "I have capital, and I am going to spend it." That he has done.
Tragically, he has spent it devastating a country that thought under Saddam Hussein things could not be much worse, but now under George W.'s mandate we have learned how terribly wrong they were. Because of this quagmire we already know how thinly stretched our military and national guard are. Now we are faced with what is being considered the worst natural disaster in the history of this country.
What began as a deliberate abuse of truth and power has deteriorated into an arrogantly obscene spending of "capital" that has not only taken a horrible toll upon our very dedicated forces in Iraq but has left our homeland military rescue forces terribly short of manpower. One wonders what propaganda genius Mr. Rove will devise to paper over what is clearly Mr. Bush's total arrogant incompetence.
From what we have seen of the heroic rescues of victims on the gulf coast and inward into Alabama and Mississippi, we also know that many have drowned before anyone could get to them. We can but imagine the anguish of military commanders who know what to do but are stymied by a shortage of manpower and equipment.
The only promise through this terrible tragedy is that everyday Americans, civilian and military, will work together and address the challenge.
