"President Bush - IRAQ War Similar to World War II" by Buz Cormany
September 6, 2005
Recently speaking to a crowd of sailors and marines at a U.S. Navy base in Coronado, CA President Bush pitifully drew an analogy between the Iraq war and World War II. In making 9-11-01 analogous to 12-7-41 the President must have assumed the sailors and marines present had passed through high school and college without learning the bare minimum about the history of their own country. I choose to think they had probably learned much more than the minimum in their studies of American History, and from their relationships with their World War II parents and grandparents, of which I am one.
It is so commonly, or at least vaguely known, that the late 1930's Adlof Hitler was gobbling up land from the Soviet Union west to the English Channel and was bombing England into virtual submission with designs of world domination. Meanwhile Japan was marching across China plundering and raping as they went. Then Japan bombed Pearl Harbor making themselves a German ally and bringing the U.S. into the war which ended in victory for our nation and our allies over Germany's goal of world domination.
It is almost embarrassing to even comment on President Bush's outrageously ridiculous comparison of World War II to our attack on Iraq; an illegal attack on a sovereign nation planned well in advance of 9-11-01; an attack sanctioned on trumped up erroneous information that has brough death to over 1800 U.S. Military personnel and devastation to a country that was no threat to us.
On second thought, when you consider his winning the 2000 election while losing the popular vote and winning the 2004 election in spite of the tragedy of Iraq, manipulations and lies under Karl Rove's guidance have worked so well it's little wonder he would ever change. However, his dwindling poll numbers show his support continues to plummet and that's the change that really matters.
