"Gasoline Prices" by Kim Kendall
Our president stood before the American people and lied. He said he would do something about gasoline prices if he could.
In 2000 the average price of gasoline was $1.45/gallon. 5 years later, with an oilman in the presidency, the price is $3.17/gallon. The tax break you received has been transferred to the president’s oil friends.
In 1970 President Nixon instituted wage and price controls through executive order 11615 to control inflation. An executive order holds the weight of law without congressional approval. It was initially envisioned to last 90 days and ended up lasting 1000 days. There were 4 phases through those 1000 days. In phase III (executive order 11627) the controls were specific to certain industries. Executive orders can be tailored to any industry. America has been told our president and congress have no power over the price of gas and home heating. It is untrue.

Economic theory has long recognized monopoly industries are detrimental to America’s health. That is why laws exist to control monopolies and critical industries. The Utility industry was regulated for decades because they dealt with a commodity essential to the American economy. Gasoline is of the same nature. America and the world has seen the growth of corporate collectives/associations, no longer individual companies locked in a battle for competitive supremacy but unified in the purpose of increasing profits at the expense of America. They are collaborators instead of competitors. If you listen to the media and politicians they speak of OPEC. What they do not mention is the profit reports of major gasoline producers: Exxon at 7 billion for the last quarter: Oil and gas companies are using the price of oil as a tool for windfall profits.
The president and congress have the power to regulate gasoline prices. The American people are being gouged. The solution is simple. Call your congressman and tell them if they do not choose to serve the interests of American citizens they will loose your vote.
