An Inconvenient Truth

It is purely speculation on my part, but interesting that the most damning detailed reliable information I receive on the Bush Administration has to come between midnight and one o'clock in the morning via WKYC Ch. 25.  My thinking is that because of the necessity of commercial funding due to dramatic cutbacks in government support yet increased oversight, the most painful truths are conveniently aired to a greatly diminished audience.

Cases in point:  Ch. 25 at midnight is where I witnessed Hans Blix, chief of weapons inspectors declare to interviewer Charley Rose in a deliberately delivered unbiased manner that he and his team were ordered out of Iraq by President Bush pursuant to the invasion even though they were still in the midst of their work and had not found any WMD's.

In addition to the Hans Blix interview, I learned many more painful truths from such respected leaders such as General Odem and his revelations of U.S. incompetent and disgraceful military planning.  Other interviewees included former president Jimmy Carter, a normally non-judgmental man who minced no words in his evaluation of George W.'s manipulations if not outright lies to the American people.  The shame is these interviews were aired between midnight and 1 AM when most northeastern Ohioans were asleep.

Last night, June 19th, again at 12 midnight on Ch. 25, I had the good fortune to view an hour long interview between Charley Rose, and former Vice President Al Gore about his book and recently released documentary film "An Inconvenient Truth".  As Mr. Gore indicates, he hopefully expects that the knowledge of global warming he has gleaned from world respected scientists and sets forth in the film will at last resonate with the American people.

As we all know, in spite of the atrocious and corrupted performances of our national and state administrations, rather than admit any but marginal mistakes they accuse Democrats of being only negative with no plan of our own. In my personal opinion I do have to agree that many of our national leaders have been very ineffective and waffling.  The Al Gore interview, however, offers a great window of hope that a very legitimate global concern so disastrously exhibited by more powerful floods and hurricanes will shed a bright light on the deliberate neglect of the Bush administration of this problem in the short-term interest of corporate profits.

In light of all the accusations that Democrats do not have a strong defining issue and are as yet unable to dislodge us from Iraq, the film, "An Inconvenient Truth" gives us a strong promise of viable political traction.  We're told that it lays out defined practical steps to begin alleviation of the problem.

As the old saying goes, "The proof is in the pudding".  The week of June 26, the movie is showing at the Regal Crocker Park Stadium 16 (800-326-3264) or the Cinemark at Valley View (216-447-7900).   I am optimistic it will be shown at area theaters for the near future.  I am going to do my very best to see it, and I hope every one who reads this will do the same.  It may very well be the influence our party needs locally, state wide and nationally.  Let's support and advertise.
