Vote FOR the Medina County Home
I cannot think of a more deserving organization to speak to the core values of our Democratic Party than the Medina County Home. Located in Lafayette Twp. at the very south end of Deerview Lane and Wedgewood Rd., the shaded grounds were the site on Sept. 10 of another festive annual gala affair of social gatherings and sumptuous pig roast with barbecue chicken, baked beans, pasta salad and all the trimmings.
For music and spirited entertainment throughout the afternoon there was the Church at Stony Hill Choir followed later by the Rubber Capital Harmonica Group. This was but background for a stagecoach ride and roller coaster rides in a restored Euclid Beach coaster car(residents first).
Also going on during this fun stuff was a silent auction and a Chinese raffle, items to be bid on of every shape and kind from free meals at area restaurants to electric grills, picnic coolers, unique clothing items, and even car washes, waxes, and free gas coupons. And last but not least was quilt raffle.
Other attractions to enjoy were antique vehicles, Hereford cattle. Mini Horses, valet carts. Civil War and 19th Century re-enactors courtesy of the Pat Icardi and Eli Beachy families, a kid's table, sidewalk drawings, kid's tattoos by Betty Hetter, and caricature drawings by George Parmalee.
However, what does this all mean in a more serious vein? To me it means that the staff, the residents, the volunteers of Friends of Medina County Home, all other volunteers, and area businesses that contributed to this most worthy event and fund raiser wanted to show their appreciation to all who by their presence become partners in making The Medina County Home the best it can be for it's deserving residents. All county residents are eligible and are assessed by their ability or inability to pay.
Special acknowledgment goes to Superintendent Lynn Remington, Admn. Assistant Chris Sulivan and the approximately 30 employees who keep this 60 bed facility running smoothly. Al Junke, volunteer extraordinaire, provided me much appreciated information. Special thanks also goes to Skip Jones from Jones Turkey Farm who donated the Pig Roast for the Day.
And now for the most crucial responsibility for us all!!! On Nov. 7, 2006 Medina County voters are being asked to replace a 0.2 mill property tax levy to continue supporting the Medina County Home. Starting in collection year 2008, this will cost, at most, $6.30 per year for the owner of a single-family owner occupied home with a market value of $100,000.
