Isn't Old News Still News?
Whenever anyone brings the U.S. Administration's past blunders to the attention of Tony Snow, President Bush's press secretary he blows it off as old news. He gets away with it because our profit driven mainstream media is only interested in the sensational and the new.
How else did Valery Plame's outing become old news? In today's high terror environment why is it not a crime to reveal the identity of a CIA agent regardless of who does it? How did it ever become an uncontested crime and old news to order Hans Blix and his weapons inspectors out of Iraq and then invade this sovereign nation without ever allowing the weapons inspectors to find that in fact there were no WMD's.
It is becoming old news that President Bush has actually said he never said there was a connection between Saddam Hussein and Al Queda. But in fact, that and WMD's were his strident battle cry. It is now old news if not totally denied news by the U.S. government that the British Downing Street Memos revealed U.S. plans to invade Iraq soon after 9-11-01.
On 9-11-06 President Bush gave his 5-year anniversary plea to the American people to believe he is the one to keep us safe. He also tells us his tax cuts for the wealthy and his deficit war spending are for our benefit. But above all he wants to be our financial advisor for our Social Security savings.
My bottom line question is this. Since he
became President in 2000, what has he said or
done that has turned out to be right? We can't
do much about that right now, but we can
remember who his supporters are when they are
up for election 11-7-06. Come to
think of it, what has Governor Taft done right?
Let us remember his
supporters also 11-7-06.
