What Drives US Foreign Policy?
As we have been bombarded with an
abundance of information and opinion before and
after the Baker-Hamilton Report on Iraq, what
horrendous issue is sometimes mentioned but
continually given short shrift? I
propose that issue to be Israel-Palestine,
readily recognized but buried for 58 years
under unconscionable propaganda that Israel was
entitled to a nation carved out of Palestinian
land.
Obviously the Holocaust was despicable beyond comprehension and it was understandable that the United Nations at the behest of the U.S. would want to come to Israerl’s aid. The problem was that Hitler and the Nazis engineered the Holocaust; the Palestinians had no hand in it whatsoever. What were they to do but fight back?
I offer the following analogy. Suppose following World War 11 the situation would have been the same except that England would be the stronger power, so in deference to Israel's suffering the United Nations at England's behest would arbitrarily carve out a nation for Israel on American soil? What would have been our reaction?
I offer some observations by Mark Weber,
Director of the Institute for Historical Review
and for nine years served as editor of the
IHR's "Journal of Historical Review. "For
decades Israel has violated well established
precepts of international law and defied
numerous United Nations resolutions in it's
occupation of conquered lands, in extra
judicial killings, and repeated acts of
military aggression." Mr.
Weber goes on to say, "Only in the United
States do politicians and the media still
fervently support Israel and it's policies.
For decades the U.S. has
provided Israel with crucial military,
diplomatic, and financial backing, including
more than $3 billion each year in
aid."
Bishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner, has been quoted thus, "The Israeli government is placed on a pedestal {in the U.S.) and to criticize it is to be dubbed anti-semitic. People are scared in this country to say wrong is wrong because the Jewish lobby is powerful-very powerful."
How often are we made privy to this
courageously astute analysis of what really
constitutes the motivation and driving force of
US foreign policy? In general the mainstream
media has been reluctant to print or air the
ruthless political reality.
Is it not a horrendous tragedy that we had to wage what retiring UN Secy. General Kofi Annan declares an illegal war to learn who really governs America? Unfortunately the majority of our Democratic Congress did not have the courage to vote against preemptive war. I never would have expected it of Republicans. Let us pray the Nov.7 election has inspired courage in our Democratic legislators and even Republicans no longer willing for troops to die in a mindless war.
