We Mourn the Passing of Judge Mary Kovack
With great sadness, we announce that Medina County Domestic Relations Judge Mary Kovack died on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Judge Kovack was Medina County's current Domestic Relations Judge, taking the bench in 2001. She was re-elected in 2006, 2012 and 2018. During her years on the bench, Judge Kovack established many programs and court services to help families involved with the Domestic Relations Court and secured numerous grants to support those services.
Before being elected to the court, Judge Kovack served as a Medina County Assistant Prosecutor, maintained a private practice dedicated to family law, and also served as a judicial attorney on the staffs of two distinguished appellate judges. |
Graduating with honors from the College of Wooster, she earned her law degree cum laude from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. During her career, she served as the President of the Medina County Bar Association and as President of the Ohio Domestic Relations Judges Association. She served on the Ohio Supreme Court's Pro Se and Indigent Litigant Task Force, the Ohio Child Support Guidelines Advisory Commission, completed two 3-year terms on the Ohio Supreme Court Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure, and was an active member of the Ohio Judicial Conference Domestic Relations Practice and Procedure Committee.
Judge Kovack currently served at the time of her death on the board of the Great Trail Council, Scouts BSA (Boy Scouts of America). She was proud to have participated in the presentation of the first Eagle Scout Award given to a young woman in northeast Ohio. She was honored as a Woman of Distinction by the Medina County YWCA, was a member of Leadership Medina County and a former trustee of Project:LEARN. She enjoyed being an active band parent with the Marching Bees of Medina High School. As a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, she won two Grammy awards for classical recordings
The Medina County Democratic Party offers deepest condolences to Judge Mary Kovack's son, Michael, and to her family and colleagues.
