- Clean-energy jobs. Tax credits will create jobs across solar, wind, storage, and other clean energy industries enabling Ohio to add to the 110,272 jobs we have in clean energy industries. Ohio will see a $12.8 billion investment in large-scale clean power generation and storage between now and 2030.
- Bringing jobs back to Ohio. The CHIPS Act will pave the way for Intel’s new facility east of Columbus and make Ohio a worldwide exporter of high-tech computer chips. Building and staffing the facility will create thousands of jobs.
LOWER DRUG COSTS
- Caps on drug prices. Medicare recipients, who account for more than 20% of Ohio’s population, will see a $2,000/year cap on prescription drug prices and $35/month cap on insulin starting next year.
- Negotiated drug prices. Government-negotiated drug prices, also benefiting Medicare recipients, will take effect in 2026.
CLEAN ENERGY AT LOWER COST
- Home energy efficiency. Homeowners in the market for new electric appliances will qualify for rebates covering 50-100% of the cost of new electric appliances that increase energy efficiency. There are also rebates for homeowners making energy-efficient household repairs and improvements.
- Home energy upgrades. Tax credits cover 30% of the cost to install solar panels and battery storage systems, make home improvements that reduce energy leakage, or upgrade heating and cooling equipment. Many families have been considering installing solar panels to reduce their monthly electric bills. It is estimated that more than 90,000 Ohio households will install rooftop panels as a result of the availability of tax credits.
- Electric vehicles. Ohio will receive more than $140 million over the next 5 years to create a network of electric vehicle chargers. And millions of people in Ohio will be eligible for upfront discounts of $7,500 on new electric vehicles and $4,000 on used.
TAX CREDITS FOR BUSINESSES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
- Support for small businesses. Commercial building owners can receive a tax credit up to $5 per square foot for energy-efficient improvements that lower utility bills. Tax credits cover 30% of the costs of installing low-cost solar power and purchasing clean trucks and vans for commercial fleets.
- Support for local governments. Tax credits cover 30% of the cost of community solar projects, and bonus credits cover 20% for projects at affordable-housing properties and 10% for projects in low-income communities. Grants that help state and local governments adopt current building energy codes will reduce the average new homeowner’s utility bills by 12%, or $261 per year.
STUDENT DEBT RELIEF
- Loan burden in Ohio. Ohio has 1,776,400 federal student loan borrowers who together owe $62.6 billion. The average student loan balance in Ohio is $34,923.
- Loan relief. The Department of Education will provide up to $20,000 in debt cancellation to Pell Grant recipients with federal loans and up to $10,000 for other federal borrowers. Relief is available to those whose individual income is less than $125,000 ($250,000 for married couples).
RURAL OPPORTUNITIES
- Energy tax credits. Electric cooperatives, which serve about 395,000 homes, businesses, and other customers in Ohio, will be eligible for direct-pay clean energy tax credits.
- Clean-climate agriculture. Support for climate-smart agricultural practices will help Ohio’s 76,900 farms take the lead on climate solutions and reward their stewardship.
RESILIENT COMMUNITIES
- Housing upgrades. Hundreds of thousands of Ohioans live in affordable-housing units that are eligible for upgrades such as flood-proofing and storm resistance, as well as clean energy and electrification. Upgrades include projects that boost resilience in the face of intensifying extreme weather.
- Transportation and extreme weather. Grants will support transportation projects and protection against flooding and extreme heat.
- Cleaner air. The Inflation Reduction Act will benefit communities most in need of cleaner air with environmental justice block grants, investments into cleaner buses and trucks, and incentives for emissions-reducing projects in disadvantaged communities.
